‘Archaeology and history are conclusive that Nri is older than Benin.’ - Prof. Emmanuel Mordi
A renowned scholar, Prof Emmanuel Mordi, an accomplished professor of history at the Delta State University, Abraka, has stated that Nri kingdom existed long before Benin kingdom.
The highly respected scholar also called the claim of Benin ancestry by Issele-Uku kingdom a farcical claim.
In his words;
“H.R.M Obi Osemene started this farcical claim of Benin origin in the aftermath of the Nigerian civil war.
“Prof Angulu Onwuejeogwu has shown that many Nri communities existed in many areas of Igbo land west of the Niger, including Issele-Uku, Ogwashi-Uku , and , even parts of the Ukwuani country, such as Ogbole Ogume.
“In fact, all Ogboli groups West of the Niger are of Nri origin. Archaeology and history are conclusive that Nri is older than Benin.”
